When an artist and a garden designer speak the same language — magic happens.
Fleur Harris is known across Australia for her tender, story-filled paintings — worlds washed in softness, nostalgia and wonder. So, when she began renovating and extending her beloved weatherboard home, she reached out to Ashley James with the hope of creating a garden that felt like stepping into one of her artworks.
What began as a design collaboration quickly bloomed into a deep creative friendship. Bonded by shared obsessions with enchanted gardens, old roses, tumbling seasonal blooms and flower-rich borders that feel almost secret, the two shaped the garden with the same joy and curiosity found within Fleur’s work.
The intention was never to replicate the art, but rather to create a garden with the same heartbeat — one that feels gentle, layered, painterly and quietly magical. A place where colour tells stories, seasons guide the mood, and every corner holds a small moment of delight.
Today, the garden stands as a testament to creative kinship — an unfolding landscape of beauty, magic and friendship.
